The Iran-backed Hezbollah militia and Israeli forces exchanged deadly fire in southern and eastern Lebanon, with the Health Ministry reporting at least eight people killed and multiple wounded, including women and children. An Israeli soldier was also reported killed during attacks on troops in the south. Israel says it struck Hezbollah infrastructure after the renewed assault, while Hezbollah rejected a revived ceasefire and claimed further rocket attacks. Independent verification of the competing claims was not available.

Fresh exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia left at least eight people dead in southern and eastern Lebanon, the country’s Health Ministry said late on Thursday.

The ministry reported that strikes in the south and east killed at least eight people and wounded several others, including women and children. Details about the identities of the victims were not immediately available.

The Israeli army said an Israeli soldier was killed in an attack on troops deployed in southern Lebanon. The army added that it had carried out strikes on what it described as Hezbollah infrastructure after the renewed attacks.

Hezbollah publicly rejected a recently renewed effort to implement a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon. The Lebanese government is not a party to the militia and exercises only limited control over Hezbollah; the group did not participate in the ceasefire talks.

Overnight, Hezbollah said it had launched further rocket attacks against Israeli forces in southern Lebanon. Israel reported retaliatory strikes. Independent verification of the competing claims was not available.

Note: The situation remains fluid and reports from both sides have not been independently confirmed.
