A 20-year-old man has been arrested after his infant daughter was discovered unresponsive and floating in a bathtub in Covington, Kentucky, authorities said.

Officials identified the father as Seffan Mederious. Responders were called on May 26 after family members reported the baby had not moved for about five minutes. Emergency personnel found the infant unconscious in the tub and rushed the child to a hospital, where medical staff said the infant is expected to make a full recovery.

Mederious told investigators he was unaware of what had happened. After the child was found, he left the scene and went to a relative’s home rather than remain to assist first responders or speak with investigators. Hospital staff later said Mederious did not respond when they attempted to contact him about the infant’s condition.

Charges And Next Steps

County officials described the father’s conduct as reckless. Mederious has been charged with wanton endangerment and criminal abuse. A court hearing is scheduled for May 27 as the investigation continues.

Note: Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances that led to the child being left unattended. The case remains under investigation.
