Tehran presents a muted, mixed mood after a fragile ceasefire took effect on April 8. Negotiations are scheduled to begin in Pakistan, but in the Iranian capital there is little public celebration.
In some neighborhoods, people observed the 40th day of mourning following a recent deadly incident, holding solemn gatherings and moments of reflection. The coverage avoids repeating unverified or conflicting claims about specific leaders.
At the same time, ordinary life continued in public spaces: parks were filled with people spending a quiet weekend — unveiled women played volleyball while others cycled, walked their dogs or strolled with family and friends. These everyday scenes contrasted with the sombre commemorations elsewhere in the city.
This photo gallery, assembled by AP photo editors, captures those contrasts: a city balancing grief, caution and small, everyday freedoms as diplomacy moves forward.
