Man Sentenced to Death After Luring and Killing Pregnant Girlfriend and Unborn Child

Donovan Faison, 23, was convicted of first-degree murder, the killing of an unborn child and burglary in the death of 18-year-old Kaylin Fiengo. Prosecutors say he lured Fiengo to Coastline Park on Nov. 11, 2022, and shot her inside her car; an ultrasound was recovered at the scene. Text messages presented at trial showed Faison reacted angrily to the pregnancy and demanded "Abortion!!!." Jurors recommended the death penalty 11–1, and he was sentenced on Dec. 5. Fiengo is survived by a one-year-old son and was remembered by family and friends as loving and kind.

Donovan Faison, 23, has been sentenced to death after a Seminole County jury convicted him in the killing of his 18-year-old girlfriend, Kaylin Fiengo, and her unborn child.

According to the Office of the State Attorney, 18th Judicial Circuit, jurors found Faison guilty of first-degree murder, the killing of an unborn child and burglary. The jury recommended the death penalty by an 11–1 vote on Oct. 30; Faison was formally sentenced on Dec. 5.

Prosecutors say Faison lured Fiengo to Coastline Park in Sanford on Nov. 11, 2022, and shot her inside her car. Authorities recovered an ultrasound photo at the scene. Evidence introduced at trial included text messages in which Faison reacted angrily when he learned Fiengo was pregnant — at one point replying "Abortion!!!" when she sent a photo of two positive pregnancy tests — and messages to a friend that the prosecution says show a threatening state of mind.

"You may and should consider the cold, calculated, premeditated nature of this killing," Assistant State Attorney Stewart Stone told jurors. "This was an execution-style killing."

Prosecutors argued Faison felt pressured because he was living with another woman who suspected him of cheating. They say the combination of the threatening texts, his actions in arranging the meeting, and the fatal shooting demonstrated premeditation.

Fiengo is survived by a one-year-old son. Family and friends remembered her in an obituary and a GoFundMe as a fun, loving person with an "old soul." The case drew attention for its violent circumstances and the role the victim's pregnancy played in the dispute.
