Prince Harry Advances Security Review That Could Allow Archie and Lilibet To Visit King Charles

Prince Harry is closer to being allowed to bring his children to the U.K. after a full review of his protective security detail was launched by the government agency that assesses royal protection. If approved, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet could visit their grandfather, King Charles. The U.K. government described its protective system as "rigorous and proportionate" and declined to provide further details; a decision is expected in January.

Prince Harry has moved closer to securing permission to bring his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to the U.K. after a formal review of his protective arrangements was launched, U.K. tabloid The Sun reports.

The government body responsible for assessing protection for the royal family and other officially protected persons has opened a full-scale review of the Duke of Sussex's security detail. If the assessment is approved, Harry would be able to bring his young children to visit their grandfather, King Charles, in the U.K.

Harry and his wife, Meghan, and their children live in California. Harry has repeatedly said that without government-provided property security, his family could not safely return to the U.K. for visits.

U.K. Government Response: A spokesperson told People magazine that the country's protective security system is "rigorous and proportionate" and that the government does not disclose detailed information about security arrangements because doing so could undermine their effectiveness and put individuals at risk.

The Sun reported that a final decision on the review is expected in January. The review will determine whether the protective measures in place meet the requirements for the family to travel to and stay in the U.K. safely.

Recent Family Contact

In September, Harry and King Charles reunited in person for the first time after an 18-month separation, with Harry photographed arriving at Clarence House in London. Prior to that meeting, Harry reportedly last saw his father in February 2024 following Charles' cancer diagnosis; that visit was described as brief.

Separately, a source told People last year that King Charles was not taking Harry's calls and had not been responding to his letters, reflecting ongoing tensions within the royal family.
