‘Respond To What You’ve Done!’ Lesley Stahl and Marjorie Taylor Greene Clash in Tense 60 Minutes Interview

In a confrontational 60 Minutes interview, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and correspondent Lesley Stahl sparred over who has fueled uncivil political rhetoric. Stahl played clips of Greene’s most confrontational moments, while Greene said she has distanced herself from the MAGA label and criticized the media’s role in political toxicity. Greene also said death threats following comments by Donald Trump influenced her decision not to seek reelection, and she remains a potential candidate for governor of Georgia or a 2028 presidential bid.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and 60 Minutes correspondent Lesley Stahl engaged in a heated exchange during a segment aired Sunday, trading accusations over who has contributed more to the erosion of civility in U.S. politics.

Greene told Stahl she has broken with the MAGA label associated with former President Donald Trump, saying she now prefers to call herself “I’m America first.” Stahl countered with a video montage of Greene’s confrontational moments in Congress — including when Greene shouted “Liar!” at President Joe Biden during the 2023 State of the Union and mocked Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s (D‑Tex.) appearance on the House floor — and noted a recent CNN interview in which Greene offered a mea culpa for participating in “toxic politics.”

Stahl accused Greene of "adding fuel to the nation’s loss of civility," while Greene said the press and others have also contributed to a toxic political culture. The interaction devolved into a back-and-forth of personal accusations and denials:

GREENE: It’s the most toxic political culture and it’s not helping the American people.

STAHL: But, you contributed to that! You! You were out there pounding, insulting people.

GREENE: Lesley, you’ve contributed to it as well with your —

STAHL: Me?

GREENE: Yes, you’re accusatory, just like you did just then.

STAHL: I know you’re accusing me, but I’m smiling —

GREENE: You’re accusing me!

STAHL: I am accusing you!

GREENE: But we don’t have to accuse one another.

STAHL: I want you to respond to what you have done in terms of insulting people, yelling at people, and then saying —

GREENE: I’d like for you to respond for that. No, you can respond for that.

STAHL: I don’t insult people.

GREENE: You do in the way you question. And you’re accusing me right now.

Greene told Stahl she decided not to run for reelection after she and her family received death threats following public statements by Trump that labeled her a traitor. Observers continue to speculate that Greene could pursue a future run for Georgia governor or potentially mount a long-shot presidential campaign in 2028.
