Urgent Search After Two Men Flee Police, Crash Car and Are Believed to Have Entered River Hull

Humberside Police launched an urgent search on Dec. 5 after a car that failed to stop for a routine check crashed into a wall on Charlotte Street and its two occupants ran off and are believed to have entered the River Hull at about 8:30 p.m. Multiple agencies — including patrol officers, the Coastguard, Humberside Fire and Rescue and an Underwater Search Team — are involved in the search. Authorities are 'extremely concerned for their welfare' and urge anyone with information or CCTV footage to contact Humberside Police immediately.

Police in Hull, East Yorkshire, have launched an urgent, multi-agency search after two men abandoned a crashed car and are believed to have entered the River Hull on the evening of Friday, Dec. 5.

According to a statement from Humberside Police, officers initially attempted to stop the vehicle for a routine check after noticing a defective rear light. The car failed to stop, prompting a short pursuit that ended on Charlotte Street when the vehicle collided with a wall at around 8:30 p.m. local time.

The two occupants fled the scene and are thought to have entered the River Hull near Charlotte Street. An immediate search was mounted following reports that the men had gone into the water.

'We are extremely concerned for their welfare,' Detective Inspector Andy Crawforth said. 'Searches have been carried out by our patrol officers alongside the Coastguard, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service and our specialist Underwater Search Team as we try to identify and locate them.'

Police warn local residents to expect an increased presence in and around the area while enquiries continue. Officers are appealing for anyone who believes they know the identity of the two men, who thinks someone they know went missing on the night of Dec. 5, or who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Humberside Police are also asking members of the public to check any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage from Friday evening for images that could assist the investigation. Anyone with information should contact Humberside Police via their non-emergency channels or online reporting tools, or call emergency services if the situation is ongoing or urgent.
