Rollins College Senior Arrested After 1,500 Rounds Of Ammunition And An AR-15 Are Found In Dorm

Rollins College senior Constantine Demetriades was arrested after a delivery of 1,500 rounds of 9mm ammunition led campus officials to search his dorm room, where they found an unloaded AR-15, magazines, a tactical vest and knives. He was charged with possession of a firearm on school property and faces a campus conduct review that bars him from campus. Demetriades said he had no ill intent, that he usually stores the rifle off campus, and that he holds a New Jersey concealed-carry permit that does not apply in Florida.

Student Arrested After Large Ammo Delivery Prompts Dorm Search

A Rollins College senior in Winter Park, Florida, was arrested after campus staff discovered a shipment of 1,500 rounds of 9mm ammunition and an AR-15-style rifle in his dorm room.

According to local reporting, 21-year-old Constantine Demetriades had a package containing 1,500 rounds of 9mm ammunition delivered to his campus residence on Wednesday, Dec. 3. The delivery prompted campus safety officials to investigate, which led to a search of Demetriades’ room.

An assistant campus safety director reportedly found an unloaded AR-15 stored underneath the student’s bed inside an unsecured black carrying case. Authorities also recovered six magazines—one loaded and five empty—along with a tactical vest, several knives, a black security vest, ear protection, and a pistol storage case.

Demetriades was taken into custody and charged with possession of a firearm on school property. He appeared in court on Thursday, Dec. 4, where a judge determined he is eligible for pretrial release. The student faces a separate campus student-conduct process and is barred from returning to campus while that review is pending.

When questioned by police, Demetriades acknowledged that Rollins College prohibits weapons in residence halls but said he did not believe that possessing ammunition on campus was illegal. He told officers he had transported the rifle to New Jersey for Thanksgiving and returned to campus on Tuesday, Dec. 2. He also said he holds a valid concealed-carry permit in New Jersey and understood that permit does not apply in Florida.

Demetriades told investigators he had no ill intent, described shooting as a hobby, and said he has worked as an armed security guard at Orlando nightclubs. He said he typically stores the firearm off campus at a friend’s home and that he had only brought it onto campus one other time.

College Statement: “On Wednesday, the College received a report indicating a violation of our weapons policy. After receiving this information, we immediately initiated an investigation. We quickly identified and contacted the student, who cooperated fully with College officials and local law enforcement as we investigated the matter further. The student was arrested and is not permitted to be on campus while we proceed with the student conduct process.”

Local TV affiliates that covered the case include FOX 35 Orlando, CBS affiliate WKMG, and ABC affiliate WFTV; People magazine published an original report summarizing the local coverage. Rollins College’s published residence-hall rules state: “Any substance or device identified as a weapon is not permitted.”

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about weapons and large ammunition deliveries to college campuses, and the important role campus mail and safety staff play in identifying potential risks. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the delivery and the student’s access to firearms while living on campus.
