Jaiswal’s Maiden ODI Century Seals India’s 9-Wicket Win, Clinches Series Against South Africa

Jaiswal’s Maiden ODI Century Seals India’s 9-Wicket Win, Clinches Series Against South Africa

Yashasvi Jaiswal hit his first ODI century (116*) as India chased 271 to beat South Africa by nine wickets and win the series 2-1. Rohit Sharma made 75 and Virat Kohli 65*; Kohli was named player of the series with 302 runs. Quinton de Kock scored 106 for South Africa, but a match-turning spell from Prasidh Krishna (including 3-9 in his burst) and Kuldeep Yadav's 4-41 restricted them to 270. A five-match T20 series starts in Cuttack on Tuesday.

Visakhapatnam, India

Yashasvi Jaiswal produced his maiden one-day international century as India chased down 271 with ease, completing a nine-wicket victory over South Africa and securing the series 2-1 on Saturday.

Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 116, while Rohit Sharma contributed 75 and Virat Kohli finished 65 not out as India reached the target with 10.1 overs to spare.

South Africa Set a Competitive Total

South Africa posted 270 in 47.5 overs, powered by Quinton de Kock's 89-ball 106 — his 23rd ODI century and his seventh against India — and a useful 48 from captain Temba Bavuma. At 168 for 2, de Kock and Matthew Breetzke had pushed the Proteas toward a potentially massive total.

Bowling Turning Point

India’s medium-pacer Prasidh Krishna changed the game with a short, incisive burst, taking three wickets in three overs, including the crucial dismissal of de Kock. Prasidh’s spell, which included figures of 3-9 in that burst, halted South Africa’s momentum.

'It was really hard for me (in my first spell). I had to think how to get back,' Prasidh said. 'I was under pressure after the last game. It's a matter of keeping it simple and being calm.'

Spinner Kuldeep Yadav then cleaned up the tail, finishing with 4-41 to restrict the visitors to 270.

Clinical Chase

India’s reply was controlled and aggressive. Jaiswal and Rohit put on an opening stand of 155 from 155 balls before Rohit misjudged a slog sweep off Keshav Maharaj and was caught at deep square leg for 75 (73 balls). Jaiswal reached his hundred off 111 balls and saw Kohli accelerate late to finish the game.

Virat Kohli scored 65 off 45 balls — his 128th ODI half-century — and was named player of the series after compiling 302 runs across the three matches.

'Just playing the way I have this series has been the most satisfying for me,' Kohli said. 'I feel really free in my mind — the whole game is coming together nicely. You have phases where you feel doubt, but I'm glad to still contribute to the team.'

Looking Ahead

The result gives India a 2-1 ODI series win after they lost the Test series 2-0. The two sides now turn their attention to a five-match Twenty20 series, which begins on Tuesday in Cuttack.
