Biden Says "We're the United States of Amerigotit" While Urging Activists to "Get Up and Fight Back" at D.C. LGBTQ+ Conference

At the International LGBTQ+ Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., former President Joe Biden misspoke, saying "we're the United States of Amerigotit" while urging leaders to "get up and fight back." He called for renewed activism to protect the Constitution and equal rights, and criticized Donald Trump and MAGA allies for trying to undermine equality efforts. Biden was honored with the Chris Abele Impact Award for his work on LGBTQ+ rights.

Biden Stumbles Over Words While Calling For Renewed Activism

Former President Joe Biden stumbled over his words Friday while speaking at the International LGBTQ+ Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., telling the audience, "we're the United States of Amerigotit" as he urged elected officials, advocates and community leaders to press on in the fight for equality.

"We just have to get up. As long as we keep the faith … and remember who the hell we are. We're the United States of Amerigotit, that's who we are! We're the U.S.!"

Biden used the moment to call for resilience and a renewed commitment to protecting constitutional rights. He warned against resignation in the face of political setbacks, saying the country should "get up and fight back" to defend equal treatment and fundamental freedoms.

He also criticized former President Donald Trump and his allies, accusing them of trying to "distort and derail our fight for equality" and deepening political divisions. "They're trying to turn it into something scary, something sinister," Biden said, adding that the cause is fundamentally about ensuring every American is treated with dignity and respect.

Award Recognition: During the event Biden received the Chris Abele Impact Award in recognition of his administration's work on LGBTQ+ rights. The honor is named for Chris Abele, a board member of LGBTQ+ Victory Action.
