Greene Says Trump Was 'Furious' After She Forced Push To Release Epstein Files

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene says President Trump was "furious" after she signed a House discharge petition to force release of government files tied to Jeffrey Epstein. Greene told CBS' "60 Minutes" she signed the petition because she believes the victims "deserve" full disclosure. Trump had shifted positions — initially supportive on the campaign trail, then resistant in office, and later directing GOP support for a DOJ release bill — and the dispute has further strained his relationship with Greene.

Greene Says Trump Was 'Furious' After She Forced Push To Release Epstein Files

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) told CBS News in a "60 Minutes" interview that President Donald Trump was "furious" after she signed a House discharge petition aimed at compelling the release of government records tied to financier Jeffrey Epstein. Greene said she backed the petition because she believes the victims "deserve everything they're asking" and want full transparency.

"We did talk about the Epstein files and he was extremely angry at me that I signed the discharge petition to release the files," Greene said. "He was furious with me. He said it was going to hurt people."

Trump initially signaled support for disclosure during his presidential campaign but resisted releasing the records after taking office. He urged House Republicans not to sign the discharge petition — which would force a House vote — but several GOP members, including Greene and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), broke with leadership and added their signatures.

When it appeared more Republicans might back the petition, Trump reversed course again and instructed House GOP members to support a bill directing the Department of Justice to turn over its Epstein-related files.

The dispute over the Epstein files added to growing tensions between Trump and Greene. Greene has publicly criticized the administration on multiple fronts, and her push for the documents along with her public challenges to the president's economic messaging widened the rift. About a week after Trump withdrew support for her, he called Greene's resignation "great news for the country." Greene also drew criticism from fellow House Republicans after she missed all House votes the week she announced her sudden resignation.
